Moulin Rouge 2002
Bright lights, action and visual glamour made this movie an exciting prospect to work on. Karen Torrisi Beading Services was given a piece of deep red, lush velvet fabric. It had a man’s vest pattern marked out in tacking lines on it. A picture of Indian gold work embroidery was given to me as a reference to use as my inspiration for this elaborate yet sparsely placed embroidery.
The costume was for The Narcoleptic Argentinean from Moulin Rouge! (2001) Gold bullions were looped around white glass pearls and couched down with a single stitch to hold them in place. The velvet enveloped the beads and embroidery with such and appetite as to only allow half of the beads to be visible.
