Mama Mia 2004

This fun modern musical used the 1970’s as inspiration for its costumes. Karen Torrisi Beading Services in Sydney Australia beaded 2 of its principle costumes.

The beading was to look like a garden of flowers leaves and vines. A lilac stretch halter neck top was to be hand beaded. Swirls representing vines, leaf and flower shapes were first drawn onto the fabric of the garment. A selection of brightly coloured bugle beads seed beads and sequins were stitched onto the marked design. The beading was placed on the front and the back of the halter top.

The stitches used included running stitches and whip stitches for the majority of the work. All beads were stitched on singularly so as to maintain the strongest quality for the quick costume changes of stage shows.
