Linda Evangelista Sydney Fashion Week 1997

Mercedes Australian Fashion Week 1997 was a spectacular event. Super model Linda Evangelista graced the catwalks for designer Alex Perry among others. The white gown she wore was a strapless bodice covered in net fabric and a full skirt. Her neck was swathed with strands of pearls and crystal beads.

How to bead this amazing glittery bodice? The beading on the bodice was technically challenging. As the mesh had a 2 way stretch and was transparent, great care was taken to keep section of the beads close together so as not to see the connecting threads and to attach the diamante stones in a way that allowed the mesh to stretch. The beading gradated from heavier at the top of the bodice to lighter at the waist of the bodice. The colour palette was white with clear and silver beads to give a shiny, crisp and clean look to the sparkle of this bead work.
